Alexander Flores

These Observer cover designs by Alexander Flores are really interesting to my practice right now. This first cover has taken a really interesting approach to using a simple colour range. I have been experimenting with laying over block colour to a grey scale image to make it more interesting and I love the way that Flores has done it here with a simple circle of colour to highlight the creature behind the text. We no longer loose the image behind the text but more look past the text to the image first before reading it.

This second cover obviously relates to my current astronomy project but i have mainly looked at this cover because to the way they have separated the sections of text. The coloured circles/planets make this cover a lot more interesting but still with a high typographic resolution.

Whittards Packaging

This beautiful tea packaging was design for Whittards by Acrobat, and i think they are wonderful. 

The first thing that it brilliant about this packaging is the 3D element to it, the fact that the front design on the boxes has depth to it. It frames the 'B' counter images well from the shadows of the 'B' and so its no longer a flat image. 

The icons designed are well thought out, the synchronised icon of a tea cup throughout them all and then a symbol above for each range of tea.

Aslo a really nice range of colours used, they enhance the different feelings that these teas are giving, very uplifting and happy fresh colours. Again i notice with this packaging, they have used white stock and only 2 colour process, one of which is black, and they have made this look high end. 

Astronomy - Sue Doeksen

Ok i have literally just stumbled on this little gem, Sue Doesksen is an illustrator which is not particularly what i am wanting to look at but the way she work is brilliant. The few pieces I have put on here really get the sense of the hand made approach across and deal with layout. This hand made approach is something i am focusing in on this year and so felt this work really relevant to my practice.

Also another major reason she is on here is that her work is very suitable for children and this is my main audience for most of my projects this year. Very colourful, very fun and getting kids involved.

If i can get an element of this in my work then i think it would be perfect to connect with kids.
